Rockland 40 under 40 winner

Sept 7 2007

In August 2005, Terence Mitchell created an environment where he and other accomplished training professionals serve as role models within the community, teaching boys, girls, men and women the fundamentals of lifelong fitness.

His new venture, called Trained Martial Arts & Fitness, reflects Terence's pride of ownership and personal creativity with its NYC Subway System theme. According to its website, Trained "is designed for everyone, regardless of race, beliefs, lifestyle, size or shape." Terence is especially proud of carrying on the boxing tradition in Rockland County by purchasing the Haverstraw PAL Boxing ring after it closed down. He has partnered with his coach Martin Rodriguez, a long time successful boxing coach, to build a competition team to help get teens off the street with this productive and rewarding physical activity.

He has also begun a Special Needs Karate program to help stimulate social interaction with higher functioning Autistic children.

Since his first days launching Trained, Terence has been giving back to the Rockland community with no fee and reduced fee programs and training. He created the Trained 2 Care program offering scholarships for training underprivileged children in Rockland County.

Trained Martial Art consistently supports local sports teams and learning centers including the Nyack summer camp program and Nyack college with gift certificates and gift passes. He also created self defense seminars for sport teams, women and children.

Terence first came to my attention as my personal trainer, long before he decided to take ownership of the Dacosta Training Center. I've known Terence as a wise and Caring "city kid" whose demeanor and decisions reflect integrity and values that we can all be proud of. I've watched as he has evolved his center to become an important icon for fitness and martial arts education in our community, reflecting the best core values of strength and compassion for all people.
